BALTIMORE, MD (January 22, 2015) — The University of Maryland's Institute for Advanced Computed Studies has singled out CyberPoint scientist Dr. James Ulrich for his work at the Maryland Cybersecurity Center (MC2). Their article, "Visiting Research Scientist in MC2 Brings New Ideas, Collaborations", describes him as "on the front lines in developing new projects and collaborations between MC2 and a leading cybersecurity company based in Baltimore."
A recognized expert in quantitative modeling of cyber risk, and in machine-learning models for malware detection, Dr. Ulrich has introduced the University of Maryland to DarkPoint, CyberPoint's advanced malware analysis platform, while interacting with many of the university's cyber researchers. "MC2 is a wonderful environment for collaboration on cutting-edge cybersecurity research, and I'm certainly enjoying my time there," he says.
Ulrich, who holds a PhD in mathematics from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, has led CyberPoint's development of quantitative models for analyzing the dollar value of an organization's risk arising from vulnerabilities in its computing infrastructure. He has also developed advanced machine-learning models for malware detection, and their incorporation within cyber defenses-in-depth.
CyberPoint's research unit, CyberPoint Labs, has as one of its missions collaboration with and support of academic research into cybersecurity. Dr. Ulrich's work at the University of Maryland is an example of the company's engagement with research universities.
