David S. Clapp and Vicki Gumtow Elected to Baltimore Community Foundation Board of Trustees

(Baltimore, MD, 10/07/15) The Baltimore Community Foundation has elected David S. Clapp and Vicki Gumtow to its Board of Trustees.

The Baltimore Community Foundation was established by community leaders in 1972 to provide a way for individual philanthropists to pool resources and work together to improve the Baltimore region. BCF is led by a board of trustees which provides oversight for BCF's work to build a better Baltimore, using grantmaking, initiatives and advocacy.

BCF Chair Raymond L. Bank said, "Mr. Clapp is a career educator with extensive experience in teaching, school leadership and non-profit work in Baltimore. His knowledge and counsel will be invaluable to the Board of Trustees as it continues to pursue a strategy of improving school leaders in Baltimore City. Ms. Gumtow brings BCF the unique perspective of a technology professional committed to building a responsible corporate philanthropic vision serving Baltimore's youth. Her dedication to community service and her commitment to serving young people make her a natural fit for our board. Both Mr. Clapp and Ms. Gumtow will be wonderful additions to the strong tradition of trustee leadership at BCF."

David S. Clapp is an accomplished educator and leader in Baltimore City. He started his career as an elementary teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools, and eventually became a principal at Barclay Elementary Middle School before moving to the Calvert School, where he served as Assistant Head Master from 2008-12. Mr. Clapp also served on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education and co-facilitated a program for newly-hired principals in Baltimore City as part of their required leadership training. Mr. Clapp is managing partner and board chairman of the Rowland Land Company, a land holding company in West Virginia. He is also president of the board of My Sister's Circle, a non-profit which focuses on mentoring and supporting over 130 girls through the difficult transitional years of middle school into high school and beyond. Mr. Clapp holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton University, and both a master's degree in elementary education and a doctorate in educational leadership from Johns Hopkins University.

Vicki Gumtow co-founded CyberPoint, a cybersecurity company located on the waterfront in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, in 2009. She oversees CyberPoint's human resources, security, recruiting, facilities, and IT infrastructure support and services. In 2010, Ms. Gumtow initiated CyberPoint's corporate sponsorship of Baltimore's Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, signaling the company's first community service initiative in the city. In 2012 she established CyberPoint's philanthropic mission to give children and young adults access to the educational opportunities and resources they need to lead a happy, healthy life. A native of Puerto Rico, Ms. Gumtow holds a master's degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University.

The board has also named trustee Tedd Alexander as its Vice Chair, Treasurer, and trustee Josh Fidler as Vice Chair.
