Joel Brenner, Author, and Former National Counterintelligence Executive, Speaks at CyberPoint

On January 25, 2012, Joel Brenner, author of America the Vulnerable and former National Counterintelligence Executive, spoke as part of the ongoing CyberPoint Speaker Series. He gave an insider's account of cyber espionage and cyber crime, and why we're all more vulnerable than we'd like to think. He also explained how current international cyber conflict is not traditional warfare, but rather a historically unprecedented form of great power competition.

Brenner, who has enjoyed a long and distinguished legal career, including both private practice and service as a federal prosecutor. Shortly after 9/11 he returned to government service as Inspector General of the National Security Agency. That post led to his appointment in 2006 as the National Counterintelligence Executive, responsible for coordinating the counterintelligence activities of seventeen federal agencies, including the FBI and CIA. Currently an attorney of counsel with Cooley LLP where he specializes in cyber law and related issues, Brenner is an expert in the new domain of cyber conflict.
