BALTIMORE, MD (November 12, 2014) — On the evening of November 12th, CyberPoint held its inaugural Women in Cyber Security reception at their offices in Baltimore's inner harbor. Over eighty women from across the region attended, representing academic, government, and private sector organizations.
While women have done pioneering work in cyber security, too few work in a growing, vital industry that requires a diversity of perspectives and talents if it has any hope of meeting the challenges it faces in an increasingly complex, interconnected, and technology-dependent world. CyberPoint hopes that events like this will help inspire women to continue to meet the challenges of cyber security, and will create the momentum necessary to bring more women into this critically important field.
CyberPoint's Sherri Ramsay opened the event with welcoming remarks. She was followed by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake who delivered a keynote address.
Participants represented the full spectrum of women working in the cyber security field, from women in executive positions to those just beginning their careers and to students pursuing degrees in cyber security. Corporate executives, government officials, and many others who've made careers in business, education, or in local, state, or federal government agencies spent the evening creating connections.
One of the evening's highlights was the unveiling of a specially-commissioned work by artist Claire Girodie (and each attendee took home a signed limited edition print of the piece).
CyberPoint intends to make this an annual event, and planning for 2015 is in progress.
