BALTIMORE, MD (November 6, 2015) — On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, CyberPoint CEO Karl Gumtow, and Technical Director Andre Protas delivered presentations to big crowds at RSA Abu Dhabi.
Karl Gumtow's keynote address, "Seven Years, Seven Lessons," drew upon seven years of experience in the Middle East to describe how the dramatic social and political changes in the region have created distinctive cyber security challenges for its governments, businesses, and citizens.
Andre Protas, a Technical Director and member of CyberPoint's Security Research Team, spoke on "BADMIN: (Ab)using Legitimate Sysadmin Tools for Offense," an important trend in cyber attacks. Once attackers gain access to a network, they reconnoiter, elevate their privileges, and then pillage the enterprise. Increasingly, they use legitimate system administration tools to wreak their damage. Protas surveyed those tools, described real-world examples of their abuse, and offered recommendations on defending against this new, sophisticated style of attack.
